Research Interests

My research interests involve the development of comparative oncology models primarily involving spontaneous tumours that develop in companion dogs. The dog is an excellent translational model for the investigation of cancer etiology, biologic behaviour, and therapeutic intervention. While murine models provide valuable research insight, the canine model offers a unique opportunity to study a relatively outbred, immunocompetent animal with a spontaneously occurring tumour. Clinical trials in companion animals often provide relatively rapid assessment of endpoints and may feed information directly into ongoing trials in both humans and animals.

My particular interest lies in radiation oncology and I am interested in determining methods of improving radiation cell kill in tumours (radiation sensitization), methods of sparing normal tissue (often adjacent to tumour) and imaging methods to better determine tumour targets and response to therapy.
